An independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable and peaceful world in which every person thrives.
About ODI
ODI is an independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable and peaceful world in which every person thrives. We harness the power of evidence and ideas through research and partnership to confront challenges, develop solutions and create change. (odi.org)
This is an exciting opportunity for Research Officer/Senior Research Officer to join ODI’s Politics and Governance Programme and to contribute to the ODI wide initiative on Human Mobility focusing on migration and development, migrant decision-making and public attitudes to migration.
You will help to develop, fundraise for, conduct and manage policy relevant, high-quality and innovative research in these areas. You will also be involved in providing policy advice, and producing innovative communication and external affairs products. Working closely with Research Fellows and colleagues across ODI focusing on migration, you will play a key role in supporting the expansion of the Institute ground-breaking work on human mobility, in the lead up of the Global Compact for Migration and its implementation from 2019.
Recent highlights of our work include:
- A series of policy briefings looking at the interrelationships between migration and critical development issues, and its impact on the SDGs. We launched the first phase of this work at the UN General Assembly in September 2017, and are continuing to produce briefings.
- A study on the role of policies in shaping migration journeys to Europe, for which we also developed and published a comic.
- We worked with researchers and journalists to understand the aspirations and motivations of Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia who are considering onward migration to Europe, with findings helping to shape the Ethiopia Jobs Compact. We also published infographics and a video.
- We examined the cost and impact of controlling Europe’s borders and communicated the findings in an animation.
- We considered the factors that shape negative public attitudes to migration and proposed ways to tackle this, including through a video with Louise Arbour, the UN Special Representative for International Migration.
