Our Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG), one of the world’s leading independent research teams on humanitarian issues, is now seeking a Head of Programme to lead and manage the group. Notable recent work includes our 2-year research programme on local humanitarian action, the evaluation of the Grand Bargain and a series of articles on community engagement in humanitarian response
The Head of Programme will be responsible for development and delivery of cutting-edge research, advisory and public affairs work on the areas of the programme to inform policy at international and governmental level through this work. This role will also lead on business and research strategy and management, partnership development and fundraising, and programme management.
You will be responsible in particular for:
· strengthening the influence and impact of research and policy work in HPG;
developing within the context of the overall ODI strategy, two-year research strategies and annual business plans;
deepening and developing external partnerships and funding streams
overseeing operations for HPG (including systems, processes and support staff).

About you
A degree and post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline
Extensive knowledge of key issues and organisations in international humanitarian and development sectors
Recognised global leadership on humanitarian issues
A strong personal record of publications
Proven ability to raise funds and build programmes of work
Demonstrated capacity for policy advisory and/or public affairs work, based on an analytical approach
First-hand experience working in one or more humanitarian crisis contexts
Ability to lead a research, policy advice and public affairs team, including encouraging good and managing poor performance.
Strong analytical skills
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Experience of working with the media
