Sudan: Short-term consultancy in the Ministry of Finance, Sudan

The Overseas Development Institute's Public Finance & Institutions team is seeking applications for a short-term consultancy position in the Ministry of Finance, Sudan.

a) About the role

The Ministry of Finance, Sudan plans to establish a "RESEARCH AND MONITORING UNIT”. This Unit will be led by a senior economist of international reputation and will take the lead in short- and medium-term analyses, providing the overall monitoring of the implementation and impact of Sudan's Economic Reform Program (SERP). As such, the Unit will report directly to the Office of the Minister of Finance, including his senior advisor. In the immediate term (January, 2020), the Unit will be recruiting a short term consultant (6 months) subject to the availability of funding.

b) Skills & Experience

  • The position is for a mid-career economist well versed in economic and statistical analytical techniques.
  • The individual will need to be bilingual, with fluency in Written and Spoken Arabic as well as fluency in Written and Spoken English.
  • The candidate must have extensive experience working overseas in an international research and/or financial institution. Experience working in Sudan or with Sudanese institutions would be highly desirable.
  • The individual will have strong communication skills – both written and spoken as well as an ability to deal with Sudanese and international Research and Policy institutions.
  • The individual will have a master's degree in Economics and/or Statistics with at least 10 years' experience, or a PhD with 5 years' experience with an established publication record.
  • The individual must be willing and able to reside in Khartoum for the duration of the post.

c) Other details

PLEASE NOTE the contract offered is for the supply of consultancy services and will not constitute a contract of employment with ODI.

Remuneration will be competitive within the international charitable sector, dependent on the experience of the successful candidate.
