ODI is seeking a Public Affairs Manager who will manage ODI’s public affairs programme, and a small policy influencing and media team. The successful candidate will lead on external horizon scanning and engagement planning, in the UK and internationally. They will lead ODI’s work with the UK parliament and through the European Think Tanks Group. The post-holder works across the organisation to:
- Deliver ODI’s strategic priorities
- Strengthen the impact of our externally-facing public affairs and communications work
- Promote ODI’s research and experts to policy makers and key influencers
- Advise and support colleagues on strategic planning and stakeholder management
You will have:
· Degree level education
· Substantial experience of successful policy change strategies in international development, international relations, foreign policy, humanitarian or human rights.
· Significant experience of working within – or closely with – the UK government or parliament, the EU or international institutions at a senior level
· Excellent knowledge of international affairs, and major global trends and processes affecting this role and our field of work.
· Media and press experience
· Experience of building and managing external relationships and networks
· Ability to work collegiately and confidently with senior colleagues internally
· Demonstrable experience of building an organisation’s external profile and influence, and delivering public affairs strategies.
· Self-starter, able to devise projects and plan and implement them, with minimal guidance
· Strong management skills, including driving results across teams, and balancing competing priorities
· Ability to understand and communicate complex analysis and information clearly and with impact
· Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
· Experience of working in the Global South (desirable)
