We are looking for a dynamic Communications Officer to further expand the reach, influence and impact of our humanitarian and conflict work, working closely with the Humanitarian Policy Group at ODI. The postholder will help enhance the impact of our research and policy advisory work, ensuring that our public affairs and communications activities are engaging, creative and coordinated and that we convene events with impact. She/he will play a leading role in delivering a wide range of events to target and engage key audiences in humanitarian policy and practice communities.

Other key responsibilities include:

· Develop and deliver a range of impact-driven communications activities for HPG’s conflict and humanitarian research, working with the Senior Communications Officer, research leads and project partners to create communications activities that will inform/influence policy outcomes. This includes working with research leads to develop engaging messaging to reach key stakeholders through communications activities.

· Coordinate and deliver a range of events and convening opportunities for global audiences on conflict and humanitarian research

· Deliver relevant public affairs activities to strengthen ODI engagement at critical policy influencing moments.

· Maintain strong internal and external relationships on relevant themes to drive impact, coordinate common agendas and harness opportunities for policy influence.

· Support the development of communications plans for HPG’s research projects to ensure a coordinated approach to policy engagement and outreach.

About you

· Knowledge of conflict and humanitarian policy and practice, including key debates, developments and policy processes and key actors.

· Experience in communications, policy or advocacy – working creatively to inform/influence policy outcomes.

· Excellent writing skills, and proven ability to summarise technical research in clear, compelling language.

· Experience convening activities and events.

· Practical experience in digital communications.

· Good project management skills

· Ability to self-start; generate plans and ideas and carry them through to completion.

· Ability to work collegially with team members, helping to shape research communications for target audiences.

· Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.
