We are seeking to appoint a Research Officer to join ODI’s Equity and Social Policy Programme (ESP) to work particulary on the migration portfolio. Under the supervision of Research Fellows, the post holder will contribute to designing and delivering innovative, high-quality and policy-relevant research, policy advice and public-affairs initiatives. You will contribute to policy research and advisory projects, engage with policymakers in research and advisory processes, and disseminate results.
This role will focus on the MIGNEX project, a five year project that studies the links between migration, development and policy in 25 local areas, seeking to connect migration management and development cooperation in new and better ways. One key task will be the data cleaning and analysis of the MIGNEX survey, which covers 25 research areas across ten countries and interviewed 12,500 young adults. Strong quantitative skills are therefore a must. You will also be working on other migration projects and qualitative data collection skills are welcome.
About the Department
The ESP leads research, analysis and informed policy debate on poverty, inequality and the role of social policy. Migration and its links with poverty, inequality, social protection and education and labour policies is included within ESP’s portfolio. Recent programme highlights include:
- A research project on social protection measures adopted since the onset of the Covid-19 crisis, and lessons to take for adaptive social protection. A global conference on the Global Reset: inequality and time for a new social contract
- Innovative methodology development on sampling respondents in migration surveys
About you
We are looking for a Research Officer who has:
- A degree and post-graduate degree in relevant discipline.
- Familiarity with the migration field
- Experience in carrying out applied statistical and econometric analysis and data management of large household surveys and other quantitative datasets;
- Active knowledge of key international institutions in the sector and beyond.
- Experience in producing research outputs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate successfully and cultural awareness.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills.
- Good presentation and networking skills.
- Multitasking skills.
- Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Ability to work in a team.
- Willingness to travel on a frequent basis.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
