About us

ODI (odi.org) is an independent, global think tank. We work to inspire people to act on injustice and inequality. Through research, convening and influencing, we generate ideas that matter for people and planet.

We are looking for an Editor/Senior Editor for the Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) to help turn complex research into clear and engaging narratives. HPG is one of the world's leading teams working on humanitarian issues, dedicated to improving humanitarian policy and practice through a combination of high-quality analysis, dialogue and debate.

We welcome applications from candidates looking for full-time (35 hours) and part-time (28 hours) roles. Please specify your availability in your cover letter.

The Editor/Senior Editor will ensure the intellectual rigour and editorial quality of HPG’s publications are maintained, working in collaboration with ODI communications colleagues to increase the impact and accessibility of research across HPG’s portfolio.

Other key responsibilities include:

· Provide editorial support across HPG’s range of publications and digital content, including substantive/developmental editing, copyediting and proofreading.

· Work closely and collegiately with researchers to shape the content of research reports, to make them clear, well-structured and impactful.

· Assist on the design and management of publication schedules for all HPG publications, coordinating deadlines, providing quality assurance and assigning relevant roles and responsibilities in collaboration with the Senior Publications Officer.

· Coach researchers in writing compelling copy for different publication formats, such as research reports, policy briefs, executive summaries, op-ed pieces and blogs.

About you

· Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.

· Strong organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise tasks independently.

· Ability to work to strict and competing deadlines, and under pressure.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise and communicate constructively with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.

· Ability to shape content for different audiences, and to assist authors with structure and content through development editing.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Confident self-starter and problem-solver with the ability to generate plans and ideas and carry them through to completion.

· Ability to quickly pick up new software and tools; a willingness to learn new skills.
