We are seeking to appoint a Head of Programme to set the ODI agenda on climate and energy and build on ODI’s existing leadership and expertise to maximise impact in these areas, through providing strategic leadership and management to the Climate and Energy Programme (CEP).The role will also serve as Deputy Director for the New Climate Economy (NCE), supporting the continued NCE delivery of high-impact, high-profile research, engagement and analysis on the links between economic growth and climate action. This position will oversee a particularly active group, which has been successful in attracting numerous multi-year projects and has enjoyed increasing influence in international and national policy agendas.
You will be responsible in particular for:
Leading an ambitious team of researchers and experts to set and drive the ODI agenda on Climate and Energy.
Providing strategic leadership and oversight for the Climate and Energy Programme and New Climate Economy London Office in particular supporting the NCE Programme Director on the development and delivery of NCE research and high-level administration.
Overseeing the development and delivery of compelling, high-ambition work programmes for CEP and the NCE in the context of the overall ODI and NCE strategies.
Strengthening the influence and impact of ODI and NCE research and policy work;
Overseeing strategic fundraising for multi-year programmes and establishing/nurturing a network of contacts at national and international levels to support the work.
Overseeing operations for the Climate and Energy Programme and New Climate Economy in London (including oversight of the systems, processes and staff).
About you
- A degree and post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline
- Extensive knowledge of key issues and organisations relevant to international development and climate
- A strong personal record in the relevant field including publications
- Proven ability to fundraise and build programmes of work
- Demonstrated capacity for, and direct experience of, policy advisory and/or public affairs work, based on an analytical approach
Proven experience in leading a research, policy advice and public affairs teams, including encouraging good and managing poor performance.
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent written and oral communications skills, including presentation skills and interpersonal skills.
Strong decision-making skills, ability to innovate in order to overcome problems.
High level skills in consultation, negotiation, persuasion and influencing.
