The Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) team leads on dissemination and engagement for ODI. Our role is to maximise the impact of ODI’s research, analysis and convening. Last year we produced over 250 publications, held over 50 public events and maintained one of the highest profile digital platforms in the sector – with over a million visits to our website and healthy social media engagement. We are looking for an experienced manager with strong planning skills and an aptitude for navigating multiple shifting demands to join our team as Head of Communications and lead on output planning, management and delivery for the organisation. You will play a key role in helping ODI translate the evidence and ideas emerging from our world class research and analysis into products and activities that will help deliver the Sustainable Development Goals and address global challenges. The successful candidate will have experience of managing teams and production processes, planning and budgeting. They will provide oversight of our publications, digital and events teams. They will manage staff allocation to projects and activities, matching resources to demand and scheduling outputs. You will be joining a team of public affairs and communications professionals who are passionate about ODI’s mission and changing the world for the better.
You will have:
· Degree level education.
· At least four years’ experience in public affairs and communications planning within a research, academic or policy-orientated organisation.
· Experience of project management working with senior stakeholders and contributors from a variety of research backgrounds.
· At least four years’ experience at management level.
· Experience of developing and implementing planning processes across an organisation. Knowledge of planning tools and processes such as Trello and Excel.
· A good command of budgeting and resource planning.
· Ability to navigate multiple, regularly shifting and sometimes unplanned demands and activities.
· Ability to work collegiately and confidently with senior colleagues internally.
· Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to coach, mentor and inspire staff, as well as listen to, and consult, colleagues.
