We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join ALNAP. The Active Learning Network for Accountability and Performance in Humanitarian Action (ALNAP) is a system-wide network organisation dedicated to improving the accountability and performance of humanitarian action by strengthening the humanitarian evidence base through sharing lessons, identifying key issues and, where appropriate, providing leadership to find collective approaches and solutions. Candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the ALNAP network at www.alnap.org.
Under the supervision of senior Research staff, the Research Assistant will be responsible for collecting data and providing analysis on a range of research components related to production of the State of the Humanitarian System (SOHS) report, ALNAP’s flagship report due for publication in 2022.
About you
The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting a set of literature reviews and synthesis on a selectin of topics related to humanitarian policy and performance. Working under the SPHS Programme Manager, the Research Assistant will also help implement the SOHS practitioner and government surveys and support analysis of this data, and may help collect data from humanitarian agencies to determine the size and composition of the humanitarian system. The Research Assistant will be expected to help with organising meetings, note taking, and bibliographic compilation. In 2022, the Research Assistnat’s role will shift towards supporting the dissemination of the Report, including the organisation of several launch events worldwide for the SOHS.
Essential
Knowledge and Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant discipline
- Some knowledge of humanitarian assistance and international aid institutions
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in conducting structured literature review/synthesis
- Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods (e.g. interviews, surveys)
- Some experience in producing research outputs
Skills/Abilities
· Strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness
· Ability to work on own initiative with remote/virtual management
· Good analytical and writing skills
· Good presentation and networking skills
· Multitasking skills
· Excellent IT skills (word, Excel, PowerPoint)
· Good teamworking and communication skills
Desirable
· Previous experience in an international policy research environment
· Experience with using coding software
· Experience collecting and analysing survey data
· Some fieldwork experience
· Ability to analyse quantitative data
