ODI is seeking to appoint a talented Publications Manager to join our multi-faceted public affairs and communications team. This role is responsible for overseeing the production and quality standards of a busy pipeline of publications across the organisation.
In last year we have refreshed our brand, designed new publications templates, and developed new ways of working to ensure efficient production and dissemination of ODI’s research through our publications. You will be joining us at a key moment as you will implement and champion these changes across the institute.
You will manage ODI’s Publications team, made up of in-house experts and a pool of trusted external suppliers, allocating resource appropriately to produce timely and high-quality publications.
The Publications Manager works with the senior team to identify and support on the delivery of priority publications, to deliver against ODI’s strategic goals. For other publications, this role provides expert publishing advice and guidance – including, publication templates, formats and guidelines, brand and style guides – to upskill colleagues to produce publications in line with ODI’s standards and style.
The Publications Manager is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the quality and uptake of ODI’s research publications, providing regular feedback to colleagues to ensure the organisation published outputs deliver in terms of objectives and external impact.
We are looking for a talented individual with:
- Proven project management skills, planning and coordinating activity across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong people management skills, overseeing a team and negotiating with senior stakeholders.
- A confident manager and communicator, able to work efficiently and diplomatically with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- An expert typesetter and artworker, with advanced experience of the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (InDesign and Illustrator, minor Photoshop work).
- Strong IT skills, with excellent knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office applications (MS Word in particular)
- Experience of creating and updating of templates, guidelines, style guides, etc.
- A proven background in publications coordination and production, preferably for a research or academic institute or publishing house.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise tasks.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for the latest trends in publishing, specifically developments to support moves from print to digital publishing, driving forward ODI’s publications to align with shifts and innovations in the sector.
