An independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable

and peaceful world in which every person thrives.

About us

ODI (odi.org) is an independent, global think tank. We work to inspire people to act on injustice and inequality. Through research, convening and influencing, we generate ideas that matter for people and planet.**

We are looking for a Senior Communications Officer who will enhance the impact of our research and policy engagement on politics and governance. This position will support ODI’s efforts to inform and influence government, civil society and private sector approaches to politics and governance – ensuring that our public affairs and communications activities are strategic, creative and coordinated.

The postholder will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of all communications and public affairs activities for ODI’s politics and governance programme, as well as bringing coherence to ODI’s wider communications around relevant themes, including political economy, governance, human rights and conflict.

The politics and governance programme at ODI focuses on innovative research and advisory work to understand how politics and power shape policies, how services are delivered, and how institutions work. Notable initiatives within this programme include the Centre for the Study of Armed Groups; Lessons for Peace; the Justice, Human Rights and Rule of Law initiative and Digital Societies.

About you

You will have significant experience of planning and delivering strategic communications, using your skills and creativity to inform and influence policy outcomes. You will bring all-round communications experience to the role, able to demonstrate examples of successful management and delivery of events, digital communications, and a wide range of marketing materials.

You will have excellent writing skills, and proven ability to summarise technical research in clear, compelling language. Your organisational, prioritisation and project management skills will be second to none, enabling you to juggle multiple tasks while delivering excellent results.

You will be comfortable working alongside your research colleagues, helping to shape research communications for target audiences, and be able to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.

Work experience or knowledge of key debates, policy processes and actors related to the themes of politics, governance, political economy, conflict, peacebuilding and human rights would be an asset in this role. A keen interest in these topics is essential.
