An independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable and peaceful world in which every person thrives.
About us
ODI is an independent, global think tank, working for a sustainable and peaceful world in which every person thrives. We harness the power of evidence and ideas through research and partnership to confront challenges, develop solutions and create change.
ODI’s Designer has a vital role to play in projecting the institute’s work to our target audiences. You will be a talented self-starter who has a passion for finding the right visual metaphor to bring to life often complex stories and data. You will also be versatile, working with colleagues to produce a wide variety of high quality communications products for both digital and print media.
Sitting within a dynamic, multi-skilled Public Affairs and Communications team, this is a hugely varied role. As well as creating visual content from social media infographics to templates, figures and charts for publications, you will be the guardian of ODI’s visual identity across our different platforms and outputs, and will also advise colleagues on commissioning external designers.
This is a part-time role, but with regular opportunities for additional freelance commissions by ODI programmes.
About you:
Demonstrable portfolio and experience in a graphic design role, or a 2.1/1st class degree in Graphic Design or a related subject
Ability to summarise complex data and messages in visual form, including direct experience creating infographics
High level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office
Knowledge of typesetting, pre-press and print processes
Knowledge of graphic design best practices and principles for both print and web projects
Experience in managing brand compliance
Excellent project and time management skills
Self-motivated, with the enthusiasm and passion to generate new ideas and produce great work
Experience of influencing and persuading individuals from different disciplines to deliver excellent outputs
Good grammar, spelling, and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
An understanding of HTML, CSS, UX and web design in general
Experience using Adobe After Effects or similar to create motion graphics and animations
Experience developing innovative design and visual content
Experience in providing brand and design training to colleagues
Experience working with a strong brand
Experience in reviewing and refreshing a brand
