ODI is a global leader on migration and displacement issues, focusing on how the reality of human mobility affects development opportunities and aspirations, as well as the challenges it brings to those on te move and host communities. This is an exciting opportunity to join our teams working on migration and help us make our work as impactful as it can be. We are looking for a dynamic and outstanding Communications Officer to further expand the outreach and impact of our migration and displacement work, focusing on supporting strategic projects and the Human Mobility Initiative (HMI). She/he will help enhance the impact of our research and policy advisory work and further strengthen the effectiveness, awareness, reputation of ODI and the as well as taking the lead in developing our digital presence and identify new means of communication to expand ODI’s reach and influence globally.
Other key responsibilities include:
· Under the direction of the HMI Director, support the development and implementation of outreach policy and partnership initiatives including proactively designing outreach plans to engage new audiences.
· Manage the HMI contact list and coordinate contacts with its Advisory Board
· Act as first point of contact for communication activities on migration and displacement projects, including coordinating activities, processes and timelines.
· Manage project specific websites on migration and displacement including commissioning and creating content and liaising with external agencies on website development, security and hosting
· Manage Twitter/Facebook for migration and displacement related projects, including posting content, monitoring conversations and engaging with followers
· Support publications planning and production, as well as the organisation of events,
About you
· Interest in migration and displacement issues
· Digital communications skills and experience,
· Excellent writing skills, and the ability to summarise research information in clear, web-friendly, non-specialist language
· Good knowledge of social media, digital platforms and web content best practice
· Ability to work collegially
· Excellent IT and data management skills, including Microsoft Office
· Strong attention to detail
· Self-starter – ability to generate plans and ideas and carry them through to completion
· Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
· Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure
· Experience of managing relationships with external agencies and freelancers
· Ability to quickly pick up new software and tools; willingness to learn new skills
